Fourteen scholars from the College of Ocean and Earth Sciences at Xiamen University (XMU) have been named to the World's Top 2% Scientists list, compiled by a team led by Stanford University Professor John PA Ioannidis and academic publisher Elsevier.

The rankings cover two categories: career-long impact and single recent year impact. The former reflects researchers' citation impact over their careers, while the latter is based on citations received during the 2025 calendar year.

Five scholars from XMU's College of Ocean and Earth Sciences — Jiao Nianzhi, Gao Kunshan, Li Zhongping, Liu Xiangyang, and Dang Hongyue — were included in the career-long impact category.

All 14 scholars were included in the single recent year impact category. In addition to the five researchers mentioned above, the list includes Dai Minhan, Chai Fei, Duan Anmin, Hu Jianyu, Xu Peng, Cao Ling, Gao Guang, Li Jianghui, and Shangguan Mingjia.

The rankings draw on Scopus data and use indicators including citation counts, the H-index, the co-authorship-adjusted HM-index, and citations to papers authored solely or as first author. They cover 20 scientific fields and 174 subfields, identifying scientists in the top 2% worldwide based on research output and academic impact.
