Anhui's Wuwangdun No 1 tomb project included in top finds

The list of China's top 10 archaeological discoveries for 2024, one of the highest honors for the country's archaeologists, was released in late April.

Included on the list was the Wuwangdun No 1 tomb in Huainan city, Anhui province, from late Warring States Period (475-221 BC).

The recognition followed a joint application by Xiamen University, Shandong University, the Anhui Provincial Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology and the National Center for Archaeology.

Since 2020, a number of teachers and students from the School of History and Cultural Heritage at XMU have been fully involved in the archaeological excavation of the Wuwangdun No 1 tomb.

Their work results have been recognized by the cooperating units and academia and they will continue to participate in the preparation of archaeological excavation reports and related academic research work for the project in the future.

In 2024, the Neolithic Keqiutou site complex in Pingtan county in Fujian province, a project with XMU participating in the excavation, was selected as one of China's new archaeological discoveries for 2023 and one of China's top 10 archaeological discoveries for 2023.
