More than 150 scholars from China and abroad gathered in Xiamen from Aug 21 to 24 for an international symposium on Lu Xun, marking the 145th anniversary of his birth and 100 years since he taught at Xiamen University (XMU).
XMU hosted the event, which was co-organized by its Department of Chinese Language and Literature and the Institute of Chinese-style Modernization. More than 150 scholars and emerging researchers from universities and research institutions in China and abroad, including Peking University, Renmin University of China, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, attended the symposium.
Sun Li, deputy Party secretary of XMU, said that Lu Xun, one of the most famous modern Chinese writers, left a lasting mark on the university's history and the development of modern Chinese literature through his writing, academic research, and social activities during his tenure.
The symposium featured keynote reports, thematic presentations, and panel sessions. Scholars discussed the inheritance and innovation of Chinese culture through Lu's life, works and ideas, drawing on interdisciplinary, cross-media, and cross-regional perspectives.
During the symposium, scholars gave presentations in three groups alongside a special session for emerging scholars, exchanging views on Lu's contributions to Chinese culture and exploring how his work has been inherited and developed from different academic perspectives.
