A five-member team from Xiamen University's (XMU) School of History and Cultural Heritage, led by Associate Dean Zhang Wenjie, conducted a 15-day academic visit to the Vietnam Institute of Archaeology in Hanoi from Aug 1 to 15. The visit aimed to deepen Sino-Vietnamese cooperation on prehistoric cultural site research and advance joint archaeological work.
The core activity focused on processing artifacts unearthed from the Mai Da Dong Vanh site. The team worked alongside Vietnamese researchers to clean, classify, and catalog stone tools, human and animal bones, and shell remains. Preliminary sorting of materials from different layers has been completed, with further statistical and laboratory analyses planned.
Zhang also held talks with Do Truong Giang, deputy director of the Vietnam Institute of Archaeology, reaching consensus on future field collaborations, talent development, and academic exchanges.
During the visit, three XMU faculty members presented research findings and introduced the university's archaeology programs and international admissions policies to Vietnamese scholars and students, facilitating academic exchange and potential recruitment of international talent.
The visit advanced research objectives, strengthened bilateral cooperation in prehistoric archaeology, and enhanced XMU's academic presence in the international archaeological community.
