More than 100 scholars from universities and research institutions in China and abroad gathered at Xiamen University (XMU) from June 20 to 21 for the 6th Greater China Area Finance Conference, which focused on financial research in the era of artificial intelligence.

The conference was part of a series of academic events marking the 10th anniversary of the university's Paula and Gregory Chow Institute for Studies in Economics.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Wu Chaopeng, vice-president of XMU, said the university's finance discipline, established in 1921, has evolved into one of China's leading programs. He also announced the launch of the Zhang Yichun Finance Award, honoring renowned Chinese economist and XMU Professor Zhang Yichun.

The two-day conference featured five keynote speeches by Professor Riccardo Colacito from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Professor Xiu Dacheng from the University of Chicago, Professor Huang Shiyang from the University of Hong Kong, Professor Yang Jinqiang from the Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, and Professor Yu Jun from the University of Macao.

Xiamen University's School of Economics and the Faculty of Business Administration at the University of Macao signed a memorandum of understanding on June 21, forming a long-term academic partnership.

Since 2016, Xiamen University has organized six editions of the Greater China Area Finance Conference, bringing together leading international finance scholars.
