The 2025 Asian Summer School in Econometrics and Statistics, organized by the Econometric Society, opened on July 14 at Xiamen University (XMU). The program is jointly hosted by XMU's Paula and Gregory Chow Institute for Studies in Economics, the Center for Forecasting Science at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Dongbei University of Finance and Economics, and the Journal of Econometrics.

In his opening remarks, Wu Chaopeng, vice-president of XMU, expressed hope that the summer school would foster more academic exchanges between China and the international community in economics, particularly econometrics.

Zhu Kai, president assistant of Dongbei University of Finance and Economics, encouraged participants to strengthen their research foundations and engage actively with instructors and peers.

Zhou Yinggang, dean of XMU's School of Economics, noted that the program has grown significantly over the past two decades, attracting 230 participants from over 120 universities worldwide this year.

Running from July 14 to 20, the program features lectures by seven distinguished international scholars from institutions including MIT, Boston College, and the University of British Columbia. Topics include recent advances in time series econometrics, panel data analysis, machine learning, causal inference, and policy evaluation.

The summer school provides a platform for young researchers to learn about cutting-edge developments in econometrics and statistics while building connections with leading scholars in the field.
