A 30-member delegation from the Perhimpunan Masyarakat Indonesia Tionghoa Sumatera Utara (North Sumatra Chinese Community Social and Education Association), led by its chairman, Fadjar Suhendra, visited Xiamen University (XMU) on March 2.
Professor Hu Wenping, president of XMU and academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, expressed high appreciation for Chairman Suhendra's long-standing dedication to educational philanthropy and reviewed the historical ties between XMU and Indonesia, highlighting the university's academic strengths and achievements in international cooperation. He also expressed expectations for closer collaboration in talent cultivation, Chinese language education, and cultural exchange.
Chairman Suhendra introduced the association's member schools and expressed hope to establish a specialized education fund to support outstanding Indonesian students pursuing advanced studies at XMU.
The two sides held discussions on international student training models and faculty development programs for Chinese language teachers. They expressed their commitment to strengthening educational and cultural ties, contributing to the Belt and Road Initiative, and promoting the advancement of China-Indonesia relations.
Following the meeting, teachers from the delegation attended an XMU admissions briefing.
