Xiamen University (XMU) and the Shanghai Astronomical Observatory (SHAO) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences have renewed their long-standing partnership, signing an agreement in Shanghai this February with a seminar featuring 17 academic presentations held after the ceremony.

Kong Dali, director-general of SHAO, said at the signing ceremony that the collaboration aims to strengthen scientific research collaboration, resource pooling, talent cultivation, and interdisciplinary and cross-departmental exchange mechanisms through the SHAO-XMU Joint Center for Astrophysics.

Professor Gu Weimin, deputy dean of XMU's College of Physical Science and Technology, noted that the partnership has already yielded significant results, including hosting multiple academic conferences and undertaking large-scale research projects. Under the existing framework, XMU students have regularly participated in practical training programs at SHAO, building a robust foundation for future cooperative efforts. The SHAO-XMU collaboration remains a strategic priority, as SHAO's plans for the 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-30) align closely with the university's primary research directions.
