Professor Chen Huanyang has been named a 2027 Optica Fellow, a leading international organization dedicated to advancing the science and application of optics and photonics.
Chen's research focuses on transformation optics, metamaterials, and wavefront manipulation. He has made pioneering contributions to the theoretical framework of transformation optics and the design of metamaterials, while extending the principles of transformation optics to other wave systems, including acoustics and water waves. His work has also produced new engineering approaches to wave manipulation, advancing theoretical understanding, and engineering design methods for controlling waves through metamaterials and artificial structures.
His research has advanced interdisciplinary wave manipulation and laid the foundation for further research and practical applications in the field.
The Board of Directors of Optica recognizes his contributions to transformation optics and metamaterials, as well as his pioneering work in extending these concepts to acoustic and water wave engineering.
Founded in 1916, Optica, formerly known as the Optical Society (OSA), is a leading global society for scientists, engineers, and other professionals working in optics and photonics. Its Fellow designation is one of the field's most prestigious honors, recognizing outstanding and sustained contributions to optics, photonics, and related interdisciplinary fields, including original research, technological advances, leadership, and service.
