Zhang Rong, chairman of the University Council and an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, met with a delegation from the University of Western Australia (UWA) on Sept 28 at Xiamen University (XMU).
Zhang said the two universities had recently stepped up exchanges, with cooperation deepening in life sciences, data science, and other fields. Their similar geographical advantages and complementary academic strengths provide a solid foundation for joint interdisciplinary research and international talent development.
Zhang said that XMU attaches great importance to its strategic partnership with the University of Western Australia and expressed his hope that the two sides would work together to expand cooperation into new areas and enrich academic exchanges, setting an example for exchanges and mutual learning between Chinese and Australian universities.
Associate Professor Maggie Jiang, associate pro vice-chancellor (Global Engagement) at UWA, said the two institutions had natural advantages for cooperation in their academic disciplines, development priorities, and geographical locations.
Jiang said UWA would work to establish high-quality platforms for talent development and joint research, advance practical cooperation across various fields, and further strengthen the partnership between the two universities.
