Mohammad Shatar Sabran, chief executive officer of the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA), told graduates at Xiamen University Malaysia (XMUM) on Oct 10 that they were not merely graduating from a university but from one of broader significance.

Xiamen University Malaysia, the first overseas campus set up by a Chinese university, marked the 10th anniversary of its first student intake this year. The school held six commencement ceremonies on Oct 10 and 11, awarding Xiamen University degrees to 1,677 students.

Enrollment now exceeds 10,800 students from 53 countries and regions. For young people from different backgrounds, the campus provides higher education along with opportunities to encounter different cultures and explore academic fields.

A Malaysian Chinese graduate majoring in artificial intelligence said her choice of the campus reflected interest in China's technological development. "China’s development in artificial intelligence attracted me, and the faculty and learning environment also made me feel this place suited me," she said.

Sabran described the campus as a bridge connecting Malaysia and China, East and West, different cultures, and knowledge with opportunity. "The school's distinctive learning environment not only exposes students to multiculturalism and broadens their global outlook but also lets them understand how different people approach problems," he said.
