Nearly 20 international faculty members from Xiamen University (XMU) visited Ningxia Hui autonomous region from Oct 7 to 10 to learn how a three-decade partnership between Fujian and Ningxia has supported local development, from industrial growth to education and health care.
The group visited Yinchuan's Minning town and Guyuan's Longde county, where they toured local businesses, industrial parks, and community projects that reflect the partnership's impact on local development.
At the Minning Industrial Park, they visited companies involved in the digital economy, intelligent manufacturing, and renewable energy. In Longde county, they toured an industrial park and a mushroom production facility before visiting Zhangshu village, which receives targeted assistance from XMU. They also met village officials and residents to learn how industrial support is helping rural communities develop.
The visit also highlighted the university's role in education and health care. At Longde County Middle School, the group learned about the Nanqiang Science and Innovation Center, an educational platform co-developed with XMU to introduce local students to scientific exploration. At Longde County Hospital, they examined telemedicine and primary care services developed with sustained support from XMU-affiliated hospitals.
The group also visited the Liupanshan Red Army Long March Memorial Hall and Ningxia Museum, learning about the Long March and the region's history and cultural heritage. A special exhibition on three decades of Fujian-Ningxia cooperation offered further insight into the partnership's development.
The visits gave participants an opportunity to observe local development initiatives firsthand and explore how university expertise can contribute to regional cooperation.
