For South Korean student Kwon Soon-kyu, Lu Xun was once just a name in a book. After coming to Xiamen University, he discovered that the renowned Chinese writer had once lived and worked on the same campus.
At the Lu Xun Memorial Hall, Kwon learned about the writer's time at the university in 1926, from his teaching and writing to his close relationships with students. He was particularly struck by the letters Lu Xun exchanged with his wife, Xu Guangping, which revealed the couple's affectionate nicknames for each other.
For Kwon, exploring the places where Lu Xun once lived and worked offered a more personal glimpse into the writer's life. Beyond his image as a great literary figure, he saw someone who wrote letters, missed loved ones and shared warm connections with others.
