The 2026 World Digital Education Conference kicked off in Hangzhou on May 11, under the theme "AI + Education: Transformation, Development and Governance".
The first group of higher education AI agents and selected case studies for international digital education outreach were released during a parallel session on higher education on May 12 with Xiamen University's (XMU) program, "Global Exchanges and BRI Practices in Digital Education", listed among the featured cases showcasing applications in Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) countries.
Data released at the conference highlighted the scale of XMU's digital education initiatives supported by the Computer Education Research Association of Chinese Universities (CERACU), which serves as an important platform for the university's international programs. Through the association, the International Conference on Computer Science & Education (ICCSE) has organized 19 conferences in 10 countries, bringing together 2,023 experts and resulting in the publication of 4,810 research papers.
CERACU also supported the development of China's first group standard for digital literacy. The framework comprises five textbooks and 27 specialized training sessions, with more than 5,800 individuals receiving the Digitalization Capability Level Certification (DCLC). The program has expanded into Malaysia and Sri Lanka to establish a digital talent cultivation network across ASEAN member countries.
The university also utilizes the "THOUGHTS" digital talent community to connect industry and academia across participating countries.
