In a move to bolster international academic cooperation, Xiamen University (XMU) and the University of Western Australia (UWA) formally signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Jan 26. The agreement, signed during a visit by Guy Littlefair, UWA's deputy vice-chancellor, established a framework for deep collaboration in research and talent cultivation.
Shi Dalin, vice-president of XMU, welcomed the delegation, highlighting XMU's century-long commitment to global engagement. Shi noted that both universities share a unique coastal identity and are expanding cooperation in cutting-edge fields, including marine environment, life sciences, and sustainable development.
Deputy Vice-Chancellor Littlefair emphasized alignment with XMU's strategic focus, noting similarities in the universities' institutional missions and campus environments. He identified marine science, environmental science, economics, and data science as key areas where their combined research excellence can drive global impact.
Following the signing ceremony, department heads from both universities discussed student exchange programs and joint academic initiatives. The meeting concluded with several key consensus points, signaling a robust future for this transcontinental partnership.
