Professor Zhang Bo of Xiamen University's College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering has been awarded the Jubilee Medal by the Chromatographic Society, becoming the first Chinese scholar to receive the honor since its establishment in 1982. The award recognizes scientists who have made outstanding contributions to the field of separation science.
The Jubilee Medal is among the field's most influential international distinctions, with recipients historically recognized as leaders advancing both theoretical understanding and technological innovation in separation science. Professor Zhang's recognition highlights the growing global impact of Chinese researchers in chemistry and chemical engineering.
Professor Zhang specializes in chromatography and separation science. He developed a microfluidics-based strategy for the precise fabrication of separation media. This approach effectively decouples multiple, previously entangled chemical processes in bulk-phase synthesis, addressing a long-standing challenge in the independent and precise control of material preparation.
In addition to his research, Zhang serves as associate editor for the Journal of Separation Science and as an editorial board member for Journal of Chromatography A and Chromatography and delivers keynote presentations at major international conferences, including HPLC conferences and ISC High Performance conferences.
