An artificial intelligence open alliance was launched on Dec 16 during the plenary session of the 2025 University Science and Technology Achievements Fair in Guangzhou. The alliance was jointly initiated by 17 leading universities, alongside eight major technology enterprises and research institutions.
Designed as an international, open, and non-profit strategic cooperation platform, the alliance brings together institutions including Xiamen University (XMU), Tsinghua University, Peking University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Zhejiang University, and the Chinese University of Hong Kong.
The alliance aims to pool resources for major national AI research initiatives, build infrastructure based on secure, self-reliant technologies, and cultivate top-tier talent. Cooperation will focus on driving educational transformation, establishing independent talent development systems, and promoting high-level international exchange.

Leading this initiative with strong research capabilities, XMU has established the Key Laboratory of Multimedia Trusted Perception and Efficient Computing and built a large-scale computing cluster. The university's leading role is reflected in its global standing, ranking 31st in the 2025-2026 US News Best Global Universities for Artificial Intelligence and 37th worldwide in the 2024 CS Rankings.
