Immersive Mid-Autumn carnival experience for XMU students

Xiamen University (XMU) international exchange students recently joined the China (Xiamen) Mid-Autumn Tourism Carnival 2025.

Their visit began with an immersive tour of the Time Meets Island, where traditional Minnan (southern Fujian) architecture and dazzling lantern displays set a festive atmosphere.

A highlight of the experience was the Bobing game (mooncake dice game). This traditional activity of Minnan is played during the Mid-Autumn Festival. Participants normally roll six dice, and the combinations of results determine the prize they receive.

Guided by staff, they learned about the game's history and cultural meaning. Many experienced the excitement of rolling the dice for the first time – some concentrating with nervous anticipation, other breaking into smiles when they won prizes.

Another popular section was the costume experience. With the assistance of staff, the students dressed in hanfu, traditional Chinese costumes and took photos of each other to record this unforgettable moment.

The traditional attire and festive atmosphere provided students with a memorable way to connect with the cultural heritage of the Mid-Autumn Festival.

The experience highlighted the richness and vitality of local culture while fostering cross-cultural exchange. Looking ahead, XMU will continue developing diverse activities and interactive programs to help students better experience, understand and appreciate Chinese traditional culture.
