Xiamen University Malaysia (XMUM) held its seventh commencement ceremony from Sept 20 to 21, celebrating the graduation of more than 1,400 students, including 833 Malaysian students and 606 international students in 2025.
Zheng Xuefang, charge d'affaires of the Chinese embassy in Malaysia, Chang Lih Kang, minister of science, technology and innovation of Malaysia, Zhang Zongyi, president of Xiamen University (XMU) and Wang Ruifang, president of XMUM attended the event.
Minister Chang praised XMUM's achievements in scientific research and innovation at the ceremony on Sept 20. He highlighted the university's artificial intelligence programs and research centers, noting their contributions to cultivating urgently needed talent in Malaysia and strengthening the country's innovation ecosystem.
Zheng emphasized that since its establishment, XMUM has become a shining example of China-Malaysia educational cooperation as well as a landmark in education exchange of Belt and Road Initiative.
President Zhang encouraged graduates to become lifelong learners who embrace change, cultural ambassadors who foster dialogue and harmony, and guardians of rational values who use technology to advance human well-being.
Currently, XMUM enrolls more than 9,100 students from 48 countries. Since its first commencement in 2019, the university has cultivated over 7,700 graduates.
