The Siming Campus of Xiamen University in Southeast China's Fujian province held an unveiling ceremony on Sept 17 for its immigration service station, providing "one-stop" convenience for immigration procedures for foreign faculty and students.
This is the first campus-based immigration service station in the province dedicated to serving foreign experts and international students, jointly established by the Exit-Entry Administration Corps of the Xiamen Municipal Bureau of Public Security and Xiamen University.
The service station welcomed dozens of international students and foreign faculty from Xiamen University immediately after its unveiling. With bilingual guidance from immigration officers, they submitted their materials on site and completed procedures such as taking ID photos. Within just a few minutes, they successfully processed their visas and residence permits.
"This is very beneficial to international faculty and students! I will share this good news with my foreign colleagues and students," said Surinah, an Indonesian language lecturer at the College of Foreign Languages and Cultures.
In the past, due to limited familiarity with immigration policies, international students often had to rely on asking around and sharing experiences among themselves to handle related procedures. "Now, with the service station on campus, it has provided great convenience for matters such as applying for residence permits and work visas." She added.
Xiamen University is currently home to more than 1,300 international faculty and students, including over 200 foreign experts. Located in the Nanguang area next to the campus residential zone for international faculty and students, the service station provides a range of services such as immigration policy consultation, visa and document processing, foreign language translation support, and policy research. This initiative represents an innovative attempt by Xiamen to extend immigration services into the university campus.
For international experts at Xiamen University, the service station will also offer professional and convenient services such as visa extension, consultation on work permits for foreign nationals in China, and guidance on applying for the Five-Star Card (Permanent Resident ID card).
Additionally, the service station has established a visa assistant team consisting of international students. After receiving professional training, they will assist with policy interpretation, document preparation, and visa consultation services for students who speak foreign languages.
