XMU delegation strengthens academic and cultural ties with Hong Kong and Malaysia

A delegation from Xiamen University (XMU), led by Zhang Rong, Party secretary of XMU and academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, visited Hong Kong and Malaysia from Aug 11 to 18.

Zhang attended the University Presidents Roundtable between the Chinese Mainland, Hong Kong and Macao where he delivered two keynote speeches. He also took part in the launch of the Alliance of Open Life Science.

Together with Zhang Xiang, president of the University of Hong Kong, Zhang signed sign a memorandum on the international big science program for ocean negative carbo emissions.

The delegation met with XMU alumni to share recent developments of the university during its stay in Hong Kong and later visited Universiti Malaya (UM) to participate in a joint academic forum on semiconductor science and technology.

Zhang and his team visited the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Malaysia on Aug 17 and met with Chinese Ambassador to Malaysia Ouyang Yujing. They exchanged views on university–local collaboration as well as China–Malaysia cooperation in education, science, and culture.

The delegation also visited the Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB) for in-depth discussions on research collaboration, technology transfer, and joint talent cultivation.

Zhang's visit further strengthened XMU's partnerships with institutions and organizations in Hong Kong and Malaysia, advancing cooperation in education, research, and cultural exchange.
