More than 5,000 undergraduate freshmen and 8,000 postgraduate freshmen arrived at Xiamen University (XMU) from Aug 29 to 30, beginning their academic journey with aspirations for the future.

The university's president, together with other staff members, visited welcome stations across XMU's Xiang'an and Siming campuses, including service points for international students and those from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan. They learned about the registration process and support measures, while also extending regards to staff and student volunteers.

To greet the newcomers, different schools and departments designed activities reflecting their own particular academic features and cultural traditions, such as "seed bookmarks", to warmly welcome the students.

XMU also carried out early assessments to identify students from economically disadvantaged families. One-on-one volunteers were assigned to assist, while a "green channel" service station was established on-site to provide guidance on student loans and financial aid applications.

Dedicated funds were allocated to support students facing difficulties, ensuring that every new member of Xiamen University can smoothly begin studies and campus life.

Life at XMU is full of opportunities to explore and grow. XMU hopes its students could draw wisdom from this fertile ground, achieve personal growth, and become the best version of themselves.
