A delegation from Xiamen University (XMU), led by Zhang Rong, Party secretary of XMU and academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, embarked on a journey to France and the United Kingdom from June 7 to 14. The visit was aimed at fostering international cooperation in marine studies and enhancing practical partnerships with esteemed institutions including the University of Newcastle, University College London, Imperial College London and University for the Creative Arts.
During the visit, fruitful discussions took place with Christiane Amiel, deputy mayor of Nice, focusing on the establishment of the Confucius Institute and future collaborations between XMU and local academic institutions.
The delegation also participated in the 2025 United Nations Ocean Conference, co-hosted by France and Costa Rica, where XMU showcased its commitment to global marine governance and technological innovation, culminating in significant agreements that signify a major leap forward in the field of marine technology.
In Paris, at the Sino-French symposium on the blue economy, Zhang emphasized XMU's century-long dedication to the integrated development of the Straits, Silk Road, and ocean, highlighting the institution's active involvement in international initiatives such as the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development.
The delegation then proceeded to the UK, where it fostered academic collaborations and student exchanges with universities like University of Newcastle, University College London, Imperial College London, University for the Creative Arts, and Cardiff University.
During their visit, the delegation also interacted with British alumni representatives, sharing insights into the university's talent recruitment policies and extending their warm regards.
