Lyndsay Duthie, vice-president of the University for the Creative Arts (UCA) in the United Kingdom, visited Xiamen University (XMU) from June 24 to 26. Zhang Rong, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and secretary of Xiamen University's Party committee, along with Wu Chaopeng, vice-president of XMU, welcomed the distinguished guest.
Wu extended a warm welcome to Duthie and acknowledged the successful collaboration between the two universities in fostering creativity and innovation, particularly in talent cultivation, faculty development, international exchanges, and industry partnerships. Duthie emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation with XMU to further advance the high-quality development of the Institute of Creativity and Innovation.
Discussions revolved around topics such as leveraging artificial intelligence to improve education, promoting industry-academia collaboration, and building a robust alumni network. Several mutual agreements were reached.
During her visit, Duthie participated in the degree award ceremony for the 2025 undergraduate cohort of the Institute of Creativity and Innovation and engaged in discussions with faculty and students.
The University for the Creative Arts, established in 1866, is one of the UK's premier public art institutions. The collaboration between XMU and UCA led to the establishment of the Institute of Creativity and Innovation in 2019. Since the first undergraduates were admitted in September 2020, the school has achieved remarkable success. A total of 39 graduates from the 2025 cohort have been accepted by prestigious institutions such as Zhejiang University and Tongji University, while over 120 have received offers from renowned overseas universities.
