From September 26 to 29, the 2017 National Symposium of Chinese Society for Cell Biology, themed “Exploring cells and innovating the future”, was held at the Xiamen International Convention and Exhibition Center, witnessing the attendance of more than 2,000 representatives from scientific research institutes and institutions of higher learning across the country. The conference was hosted by the Chinese Society for Cell Biology, organized by the School of Life Sciences of Xiamen University, Xiamen Science and Technology Association and Shanghai Bo Sheng Exhibition Co., Ltd., and co-organized by the People's Government of Haicang District of Xiamen, the State Key Laboratory of Cellular Stress Biology (Xiamen University), and the Innovation Center for Cell Signaling Network.
Academician Han Jiahuai, vice president of Xiamen University, attended the meeting and delivered an opening address, in which he pointed out that China's cell-biology has made great progress and harvested a cornucopia of original findings par excellence in recent years, having more say in the international community. Meanwhile, the biology study in Xiamen University, along with their counterparts across the world has also grown and thrived in an increasingly competitive global arena of science and research.
At the closing ceremony on September 29th, Prof. Zhou Dawang, dean of the School of Life Sciences of Xiamen University, was conferred the Promega Innovation Award, which was co-established by the Chinese Society for Cell Biology and Promega Corporation in 2013 to reward the young scientists who have completed key innovative studies over the previous five years in China, in an effort to promote the development of national cell biology.
