On 28 September, the graduation ceremony for the class of 2019 was held with grandeur at Chen Huachun Concert Hall, Xiamen University Malaysia, awarding bachelor’s degrees to 371 graduates, among whom 242 are Malaysians and 129 are from China.
Among the dignitaries present at the ceremony were the Chinese Ambassador to Malaysia Bai Tian, Special Envoy of Malaysia to China Tan Kok Wai, Xiamen University President Zhang Rong, Chairman of the General Alumni Association Zhu Chongshi and Xiamen University Malaysia President Wang Ruifang.
President Zhang Rong delivered a commencement address, driving home his four hopes for the grads: He urged them to maintain and expand their love and compassion to carry the weight of the world; to have the wisdom to live in harmony with people of different backgrounds and do their part to resolve cultural conflicts; to participate in the Belt and Road Initiative to provide solutions to major problems facing mankind; and to inherit the Tan Kah Kee Spirit and have the courage to take on greater responsibilities.
The employment situation of the first batch of graduates is reportedly encouraging. More than 70 percent of Chinese graduates will further their study in the UK, Australia, the United States and other countries. Most Malaysian students have gained their entry into leading companies in their country.
