From November 26 to 27, the 5^th symposium on the teaching of material science and engineering experiments for institutions of higher learning was successfully held in Room 220, Song’en Building, Xiamen University. Hosted by the Research Institute of Collegiate Material Science and Engineering Experiments and co-organized by the XMU Academic Affairs Office and XMU College of Materials, this meeting aimed to probe into the teaching reform, exchange teaching experience and enhance curricular cooperation, and thus to improve the teaching quality and standard of “material science and engineering experiments”. And more than eighty experts from over forty well-known institutions across China have taken part in the symposium, with a total of fifteen reports made by the expert delegates.

The Research Institute of Collegiate Material Science and Engineering Experiments, which was established in 2010, is a collaborative and academic organization for higher institutions. Since then, the institute has served as an important platform for teaching and research staff in material science and engineering experiments to communicate and study. In 2014, Xiamen University was granted the honor of becoming the vice chairman of the research institute.
