On the evening of December 8, the final of 2016 XMU Quiz Competition on Laboratory Safety & Hygiene was held at the lecture hall of Dewang Library of Xiang’an Campus. Vice President of XMU Han Jiahuai, who is also the academician of Chinese Academy of Science, attended the event. Also present were the delegates of the administrative committee of Xiang’an Campus, China’s Youth League Committees (CYLC) of XMU and counselors of varied colleges as well as over 300 students.
Jointly hosted by the administrative committee of Xiang’an Campus, XMU Office of Laboratory & Facility Management and CYLC of XMU, this event aimed to raise overall awareness of safety and hygiene in laboratories among students so as to help labs turn out quality personnel more efficiently and effectively.
Since sign-up day, the competition had garnered widespread attention among the XMU teachers and students who rallied approximately 200 teams vying for the trophy. Ultimately, nine teams came to the fore en route to the final, which is composed of four segments including required questions, quick response questions, finding faults in pictures and risk questions. After ferocious contest, the team nicknamed Big Friendly Giant Sophie from the College of Ocean and Earth Sciences captured the championship by landslide.
