Recently, the Ministry of Education released the “2016 Notice of the Ministry of Education on China’s undergraduate majors for the record and their approval result”. According to this document, two new majors, i.e., stomatology and dance performance, have received approval for their establishment in Xiamen University.

Stomatology is currently a major that promises vast career prospects. According to statistics, by 2030 China would require 400,000 dentists if each 4.000 citizens are to be cared by one. Xiamen University is now beefing up its construction of hospitals and has reached a cooperation agreement with Cardiff University in UK, whosestomatology ranks in top three in Europe and number one in England. XMU will seize the opportunity to press ahead with the construction of this promising field of study.

It has been XMU’s time-honored tradition to set great score by training all-rounded individuals – morally, intellectually, physically and aesthetically. Arts is listed among the key disciplines under the national construction and XMU is one of the earliest comprehensive universities to build an art college. And over the past 30 years, XMU has invariably placed great importance on art education, nourishing and nurturing the students’ unique elegance and taste. This time the Ministry of Education has approved dancing performance as a new major given XMU’s many years’ teaching experience on this specialty area already. It’s hoped that the establishment of this new major will further elevate the quality of our art education.
