From March 22-23, the 2nd World Ballet Competition was held in Tokyo. 124 contestants from across the world joined the competition, including Ou Rui, a student from the School of Arts, Xiamen University, who took part in the competition with her tutor Prof. Li Na. Ou Rui won the gold award in the adult group for her original solo dance called Budding and Prof. Li Na walked away with the teaching award. It’s reported that Ou Rui and Li Na are the only Chinese prize-winners at the competition. Because of her outstanding performance, Ou Rui also received the invitation to enter the South Korea National Ballet Competition.
It is reported that there are 5 judges for this competition, with Jaekeun Park chairing the judging panel, Park is also the chairman of the South Korea Ballet Foundation. Other four judges are Ms. Xin Lili, Head of Shanghai Ballet Group, Mr. Mareks Rozickis, Principal of the National Ballet School, Berlin, German, Ms. Jolanta Rybarska, Principal of the Poland’s National Ballet School, and Mr. Kenichi Soki, a soloist of the former Austria Salzburg National Theater Ballet. The competition comprises of two categories: classic dance and modern dance. This time there are altogether four teachers who have won the Teaching Awards. It was subsequently learned that Ou Rui’s performance was rated “very awesome” by the judging panel.
