To greet the coming of the 96th Xiamen University anniversary, the event called “Rereading classics: Master & Masterpieces Poetry Recitation” was successfully held at the Dewang Library Hall on the evening of March, 31. Hosted by the Poetry Society of China, this recitation was organized by XMU Xiang’an Campus Management Committee, co-organized by the Communist Youth League XMU Xiang’an Campus Working Committee.

The cast included the nationally renowned performing artists, broadcast artists, and voiceover artists such as Hong Yun, Qu Xianhe, Zhang Junying, Liu Jihong, Qu Jingguo and Ren Yaming, as well as some excellent local artists and representatives of XMU student art groups. The repertoire ranges from classical Chinese poetry, foreign masterpieces to modern Chinese poetry. Present at this mind-nourishing feast for the eyes and ears were Mr Chen Guang, Assistant to the President of XMU, Party secretary of Xiang’an Campus, and Director of management committee, Mr. Gao Zhonghua, Vice secretary of the Party committee and Vice director of management committee, along with 600 audience within and without XMU.

Amid the familiar curtain call music “Ode to the Motherland” and the prolonged applause of the audience, the performance dropped its curtain with great success. The artists from afar pointed out that the goal of rereading the classics is to boost our cultural confidence and uplift our national spirits. They spoke highly of Xiamen city where poetry recitation has a large following of fans, and expressed their gratitude to the warm support of XMU teachers and students. In the end, they extended good wishes, at the dawn of the 96th anniversary, that XMU could achieve the two “Centennial “ goals at an earlier date and become more prestigious at home and abroad.
