In order to greet the 23^rd World Reading Day and create a pleasant reading environment for XMU students, XMU labor union held a “Joy-reading Book House” book donation ceremony and the event of “ Special book sale to promote nationwide reading in college campus”in the2^ndfloor lobby of the Science and Art Center. Lai Hongkai, Deputy secretary of the party committee, Jiang Dongming, Director of the XMU publishing house, Lin Jiehong, Vice general manager of the Fujian Xinhua Publishing Group attended the ceremony.

At the ceremony, Mr. Lai presented the books of the “Most Beautiful Universities of China”series to the six grass-roots labor unions of Xiamen University that had applied in second batch for the construction of “Joy-reading Book Houses”. Director Jiang expressed his hope that all the faculty members would value learning, advocate learning, persist in learning, cultivate life-long learning through means such as the establishment of “Joy-read Book Houses” so that they could absorb new knowledge, grasp novel skills and enjoy the pleasure of reading and learning.

Following the event themed as “Joy-reading sweetens campus vibes”, XMU labor union will launch a series of activities, including book donations, book sales at preferential prices, essay contests, reading discussions and masterpieces recitations. It’s reported that at the scene 17 grass-roots labor unions selected more than 1500 books related to culture, law, psychology, health and parenting.
