On December 5th,the curtain was lifted on the 2016 International Symposium on Preventing and Mitigating Marine Hazards, a sub-forum of the 2016 Amoy World Ocean Week, at Xiamen Wyndham Hotel. WithCOMI (XMU Coastal and Ocean Management Institute ) as the major organzier, this event washosted by Fujian Provincial Department of Ocean and Fisheries and China-ASEAN Maritime Cooperation Center, and jointly co-organized by the Taiwan Straits Maritime Forecast Center and the Collaborative Innovation Center for Peaceful Development of Cross-strait Relations. Foreign attendees, from Australia, the United States, and Southeastern Asia countries that include Cambodia, Malaysia, Thailand, Brunei, Singapore, Indonesia, and Vietnam, met with their Chinese counterparts in XM to discuss such themes as prevention and control of marine hazards, ocean environmental forecast and China-ASEAN cooperation in preventing and mitigating Marine Hazards, etc. The aim is to provide a platform of sharing and communication for scholars and mangers in China-ASEAN area, especially the scientists and officials in charge of affairs pertaining to marine hazards.
COMI, in the meantime, has actively involved itself in the organization of the major forum of the 2016 Amoy World Ocean Week as well as the seminar of Blue Economy Investment in East Asia (hosted by Partnerships in Environmental Management for the Seas of East Asia (PEMSEA))
