On October 30th, the 2016 China Robotic Competition wrapped up at Changsha, Hunan province. XMU team outperformed their rivals and captured the championship at the basketball contest, marking a four year winning streak in this arena.
Starting in 1999, the robotic competition has been held for 17 consecutive years in China. As the most authoritative contest in robotics plus a grand gathering for science education, it has now become an ideal platform of exchange and communication for smart technology and top-tier talents across the country.
What RCS robotic team of XMU has actually attended in this competition is basketball contest. Within just four months, the team went through countless trials and errors before they could pin down their new design. An omni-directional mobile robot based on a four-wheel chassis finally made its appearance at the event with its automatic shooting percentage close to 100% by cleverly exploiting the spring force in the new design.
The RCS Maker team, open for all XMUers all day, has been approved as one of the first innovation and practice programs for XMU undergraduates. This program gears its teaching mode towards the goal of sharpening every team member’s edge apropos of professional quality and engineering practice and up to now it has achieved positive results. Statistics show that 78% of the 20 team members who are graduating next year have secured postgraduate recommendations for top-ranking universities of China.
