On November 6, the curtain dropped on the TV finals of the 9th National Intercollegiate Ocean Knowledge Contest. Recommended by the Youth League Committee of Xiamen University, Hu Juntong, a junior of the XMU College of Ocean and Earth Sciences, garnered the highest award – the North Pole Prize as well as the national first prize. Meanwhile, Li Youran, a sophomore of the same college also secured the national first prize. This is the first time for XMU to win two top prizes at this competition.

Earlier this year between June and September, XMU students had actively participated in and geared themselves up for the phase of the online personal Q&A session of the contest. Rivaling against thousands of competitors nationwide, Lin Yihan and Li Zhenhang came to the fore and took home the national second prize, while Li Shumin, Xiao Shujie, Li Junhui the third.

Xiamen University has made it a tradition to set great store by the education of marine culture and knowledge for students. Last year, XMU organized a series of brand activities like the 7th Competition On Ocean Knowledge and National Tryouts, the 6th “Into The Ocean” Experiment Skill Contest, Ocean Photography Contest, Shell Design Contest, “Cerulean Graces” Ocean Culture Month, etc. These activities have substantively strengthened the ocean awareness of students and their love for the ocean.
