The plaque unveiling ceremony for the XMU Dewang Library was held on the morning of November 3^rd. Dignitaries as well as a student representative jointly lifted the veil, including Mr. Cao Dewang, board chairman of Fuyao Glass Industry Group Co Ltd. (FYG), Mr. Zhang Yan, Party secretary of XMU, Mr. Zhu Chongshi, president of XMU, Mr. Zhang Ruiling, a renowned calligrapher, a Chinese scholar as well as a guest professor of XMU, Mr. Xiao Dehong, dean of XMU libraries, etc. Also present at the celebratory event were government officials, school leaders, the XMU alumni, and the students of XMU who witnessed the memorable moment together.

XMU president Zhu Chongshi, on behalf of XMU, expressed sincere thanks to Mr. Cao Dewang, the chairman of Fuyao Group who has provided generous financial support for the library development of Xiamen University. Zhu said that libraries of a university play a pivotal role in our mission to impart knowledge and nurture talents, and he asserted that the completion of the Dewang Library will surely take the overall infrastructure of XMU to a new level.

Zhu recognized Mr. Cao as an outstanding representative of Chinese excellent entrepreneurs who has grown a small township business into the world’s biggest producer of automobile glass over the past 30 years. It is partly out of the gratitude towards him and partly the appreciation for his character that XMU has decided to hold this unveiling ceremony, in the hope that XMU students would make good use of the library resources, and strive to become a man of value, honor and commitment like Mr. Cao. in the future.

Mr. Cao said that it is a great joy for him to be able to do his part for the development of XMU. He sincerely hoped that Xiamen University could achieve his lofty goal of becoming a world-class university as early as possible. He also said he was deeply touched and impressed by Mr. Tan Kah Kee’s profound love for his country and his strong sense of commitment, and he would follow in his steps to serve and repay the society, to continue to provide care and support for XMU’s construction.

With a building area of 73,000㎡ , the Dewang Library of XMU is by far the largest single building and the best-equipped library in terms of its hardware and software in China, and is also a UNESCO-designated library that contains a large collection of international literatures and documents. Mr. Cao has donated a whopping 100 million yuan to build this library, which turned out to be the largest single donation of its kind in China.
