On December 19, the 2023 Ho Leung Ho Lee (HLHL) Foundation award ceremony took place in Beijing, honoring 56 outstanding scientists in the field of science and technology this year. Among them, Academician Lin Shengcai, Professor from the School of Life Sciences, received the Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation Prize for Scientific and Technological Progress (Award for Life Sciences).

The Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation was established in 1994 with funds donated by four patriotic Hong Kong financiers Ho Sin Hang, Leung Kau-Kui, Ho Tim, and Lee Quo-wei. Aiming to reward the scientific and technical workers with outstanding contribution and to promote the development of science and technology undertakings in China, it annually bestows prizes upon Chinese scientists in three categories: Prize for Scientific and Technological Achievements, Prize for Scientific and Technological Progress, and Prize for Scientific and Technological Innovation. In its 29-year history, the foundation has granted awards to a total of 1582 eminent scientists, serving as a successful non-governmental model for recognizing scientific and technological pursuits in China while nurturing talents for innovation.
