XMU Delegation Visits Macao

From May 11 to 14, XMU Party Secretary Zhang Rong led a delegation to visit Macao for strengthening the educational cooperation between XMU and Macao and better contributing XMU’s efforts to the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. The team visited the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao S.A.R, University of Macau (UM), City University of Macau (CITYU) and Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST), and get-together with XMU alumni in Macao.



 


Fu Ziying, Director of the Liaison Office, and Zheng Xincong, Deputy Director, welcomed Zhang Rong and the delegation. Zhang first expressed his gratitude for the long-term support from the Liaison Office for the development of XMU. He then gave an overview of the purpose and expected outcomes of this visit, and looked forward to the exchanges and cooperation between XMU and Macao. Fu said that Fujian and Macao shared similar origins and maintained close cooperation. At this critical moment of Macau’s development, the Liaison Office would be willing to work with XMU to make new contributions to the exchanges of higher education between Fujian and Macao and the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

 

During the visits to the universities, Zhang Rong reviewed what we have achieved in the cooperation between XMU and the three universities, and discussed the plans and detailed measures for further cooperation. In MUST, President Joseph Hun-wei LEE, Vice President Lin Zhijun met with the XMU delegation. Both sides acknowledged the progress in programs such as Macao Center for Accounting Studies and discussed more opportunities for future cooperation.

 

In UM, Rector Song Yonghua, Vice Rector HUI King Man reviewed with the XMU delegation the achievements of cooperation on various fields, and discussed programs of co-nurturing talents and co-establishing league of education and science. The delegation then visited research institutions in UM, including the State Key Laboratory of Internet of Things for Smart City (University of Macau), State Laboratory of Analog and Mix-signal VLSI and the Center for Chinese History and Culture.


In CITYU, the XMU delegation received warm welcome from Rector Liu Jun, Vice Rector Zhou Wanlei and Pro-Rector Cintia Chan. Both sides had discussions about talent nurturing, discipline design and cooperation and integration of industry, education, research and application.


The delegation also attended the activities organized by XMU alumni in Macao. Zhang Rong looked back on the long-existing bond between XMU and Macao, and appreciated what the Macau alumni have done for the development of the university. Zhang then spoke of the recent progress XMU had made, including R&D on COVID testing and vaccine, achievement in world-class university project and so forth. In the end, Zhang hoped that the Macau alumni could make greater efforts to build XMU as a better part of the educational efforts to boost national development.
