I. Categories of Scholarships
ⅰ. Chinese Government Scholarship (for applicants of Xiamen University)
The Chinese Government Scholarship falls into two categories: full scholarship and partial scholarship.
Full Scholarship enjoys living allowances, comprehensive medical insurance schemes and exemption from tuition fee and accommodation fee for on-campus accommodation. Partial scholarship enjoys one or some items of the full scholarship.
The Chinese Government Scholarship includes University Postgraduate Scholarship Program, Sino-American Cultural Exchange Scholarship, Chinese Government Marine Scholarship, and Chinese Government Scholarship for Specific Countries.
a) University Postgraduate Scholarship Program (Full Scholarship): international applicants for Master’s or doctoral degree programs in China can directly submit application to the Admissions Office of XMU.
b) Sino-American Cultural Exchange Scholarship (Full Scholarship): American applicants for Master’s or doctoral degree programs in China can directly submit application to the Admissions Office of XMU.
c) Chinese Government Marine Scholarship (Full Scholarship): to support outstanding students from the coastal countries or regions around the South China Sea, the Pacific and the Indian Oceans and African developing countries to study in China in a master's or doctoral program in oceanography or other related fields. Applicants will be given priority if they are engaged in the ocean-related fields. Students can directly apply to the Admissions Office of XMU.
d) Chinese Government Scholarship for Specific Countries: (Full or Partial Scholarship): open to applicants for Bachelor’s degree program, Master’s degree program, doctoral degree program and scholar programs. Applicants shall apply to Chinese diplomatic missions or dispatching authorities between January and April every year.

ⅱ. Confucius Institute Scholarship (for applicants of Xiamen University)
a) Chinese Language and Culture Program: launched by the Confucius Institute Headquarters to encourage students, scholars and Chinese language teachers worldwide to study Chinese language and culture in China. The Scholarship is provided to foreign students who would like to study Chinese in China or study in the program of MTCSOL (Master of Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages). Scholarship holders are exempt from tuition fees, fees for basic learning materials, accommodation fees on campus, and are provided with monthly allowances and a comprehensive insurance scheme for foreign students studying in China.
b) Confucius China Study Plan (Fellowships for PhD Program):the Plan consists of six subprograms: Sino-foreign Joint Ph.D. Subprogram, Ph. D. in China Subprogram, “Understanding China” Visiting Scholar Subprogram, Young Leaders Subprogram, International Conference Subprogram, and Publishing Subprogram. The majority of financial support is provided through support of specific research and other projects on designated academic areas of Humanities and Social Sciences.

ⅲ. Fujian Provincial Government Scholarship for International Students (for applicants of degree study in Xiamen University)
To promote international exchange and cooperation in Fujian Province and encourage more overseas students to come to study in Fujian, the Fujian Provincial Government set up the scholarship for international students in 2012. The scholarship is open to applicants for Bachelor’s degree program, Master’s degree program, and doctoral degree program and covers tuition and accommodation fee. Please submit application to the Admissions Office of XMU.

ⅳ. Tan Kah Kee Scholarships
The Tan Kah Kee Scholarships have been set up by Xiamen Tan Kah Kee Education Foundation as part of its efforts to promote the legacy of Mr. Tan Kah Kee, “the standard-bearer of overseas Chinese and the glory of the nation”, and to foster the Tan Kah Kee spirit in entrepreneurship and dedication to education.
The scholarships are open to ethnic Chinese students from countries along the Maritime Silk Road who wish to study in a bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral degree program or in a long-term or short-term non-degree study program in Xiamen. The scholarships cover the recipients’ tuition, accommodation and insurance expenses, and living allowances.

ⅴ. Xiamen University Scholarships for International Students
a) Scholarship for New International Students (Degree-study scholarship, Bachelor's, Master's or doctoral degree candidates): XMU offers scholarships to doctoral, master’s and bachelor’s degree candidates. Scholarship holders will be exempt from tuition (a maximum of 3-4 years for doctoral programs, 2-3 years for master’s programs, 4-5 years for undergraduate programs). Moreover, XMU provides monthly allowances for outstanding master’s and doctoral degree candidates in accordance with the standards of the Chinese Government Scholarship.
b) Scholarship for Exceptional Students (Degree-study scholarship, registered Bachelor's, Master's or doctoral degree candidates): XMU awards scholarships to current international students who have exceptional performances during their studies at XMU. The application time is in April, during the period of annual university anniversary.
