Medical Insurance

In order to ensure their health and safety and in line with relevant Chinese government and Xiamen University regulations, all international students are required to purchase insurance. International students who do not purchase insurance as required will not be allowed to register, extend their visas or change the type of their visas. Recipients of Xiamen University Scholarships and Fujian Provincial Government Scholarships who fail to take part in the insurance scheme will forfeit their scholarships. 

Ping An Annuity Insurance Company Beijing Branch is the designated insurance provider for Chinese Government Scholarship students. To standardize international students insurance, all international students (excluding students on exchange programs, Overseas Education College self-suppporting program and MBBS program) are required to join the 800RMB insurance plan provided by Ping An Annuity Insurance Company Beijing Branch. The insurance premium is 800RMB/person/year. . Insurance Regulations

. International scholarship students with insurance fee waiver (including Chinese Government Scholarship Students, Hanban Scholarship Students and Tan Kah Kee Scholarship Students)

These students should register on time as required at the beginning of every academic year. The university or the scholarship council-in-charge will purchase insurance for registered scholarship students. These students do not need to pay the insurance fee.

. Other international students (including Fujian Government scholarship, Xiamen University scholarship and self-supporting students)

Please note students whose scholarship is suspended or canceled during the annual review becomes a self-supporting student in next academic year; students who have no scholarship during study extension period are categorized as self-supporting students in the academic year in question.

These students should log in www.lxbx.net and pay the insurance fee every academic year within the designated timeframe notified by the university. Please refer to the Wechat account XMUOSAO for detailed instruction of online payment. Students can download and print the insurance receipt after successful payment. Students will be required to present the receipt upon registration and when applying for residence permit. Those who do not purchase insurance on time will not be allowed to register or extend their residence permits.

. Exchange students

Exchange students should purchase medical insurance to cover their period of exchange at Xiamen University before landing. A proof of valid medical insurance is required upon registration. All the materials in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with the notarized translation in Chinese or English.


. Claim and Reimbursement

ⅰ. Designated time for insurance service

Time: 14:30-17:30, every Wednesday afternoon (excluding weekends and public holidays)

Place: Counter 8, Student Affairs Hall (1st Floor, Jiageng 3 Bldg.Siming Campus)

The service time is subject to possible changes. Please refer to new notices released annually for the latest information. For emergencies, please call the 24-hour insurance hotline at 400-810-5119 transit 1.

ⅱ. Reimbursement for out-patient and emergency medical expense

The insurance scheme only covers medical treatment in public hospitals within mainland China. The starting line is 650RMB (with a daily limit of 600RMB). If the total expense exceeds 650RMB, students can apply for reimbursement by bringing all the relevant medical documents to OSAO, which will be forwarded to the insurance company. The insurance company will reimburse 85% of the reasonable expenses that is beyond 650 RMB with a daily limit of 600 RMB.

ⅲ. Reimbursement for in-patient medical expense

Students can apply for prepayment or pay for the medical treatment first and apply for reimbursement later.

a) Apply for prepayment

Prepayment service is only limited to Xiamen Zhongshan Hospital, Xiamen Medical First Aid Center, Xiamen No. 3 Hospital, Xiamen No. 1 Hospital and Xiamen Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Please do call 400-810-5119 EXT 1 to report to the insurance and contact your collge and OSAO in advance if you need to apply for prepayment service.

Please note that students cannot get compensated without reporting through the 400-810-5119 call.

b) Apply for reimbursement

If students have already paid all the medical fees, they can bring all the relevant medical materials to OSAO and apply for reimbursement. Note:

1. Overseas students must themselves pay for: dentures, fillings, eyeglasses, childbirth, abortion, plastic surgery, purchase of nutritional supplements, and treatment of common chronic diseases predating arrival in China.

2. Costs of injuries or casualties in accidents arising from overseas students disobeying to school discipline or law are paid entirely by the responsible party.

3. Students from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan and overseas Chinese students enjoy the same insurance scheme with mainland students. Please consult colleges for more details.
