On March 27th, Tang Dengjie, deputy secretary of the CPC Fujian Provincial Committee and governor of Fujian Province, paid a visit to Xiamen University to examine the progress of its “Double Top-tier” construction, and meanwhile, to give his warmest regards to XMU faculty and students. XMU Party Secretary Zhang Yan and President Zhang Rong respectively joined Governor Tang on the investigation tour.

At the School History Gallery of XMU, Tang Dengjie learned more about the history and achievements of Xiamen University and focused his attention on the plans and arrangements with regard to the “Double Top-tier” construction. Following that, he conducted in-depth on-spot investigations by making trips to some relevant research institutes and laboratories of XMU and listened attentively to the briefings delivered by those who are in charge in such units as the Research Institute of Graphene Engineering and Industry, the National Center for Diagnostics of Infectious Diseases and Vaccine Engineering Technology, the School of Materials, the Academy of Aeronautics and Astronautics, the Institute of Industrial Technology, and Artificial Intelligence. As a result, Governor Tang gained a deeper understanding of XMU’s efforts to boost original creativity and deepen the strategic cooperation between XMU and Fujian Province.

Tang Dengjie affirmed that Xiamen University is one of the national key universities, the vanguard of the tertiary education in Fujian Province, and a major driving force for technological innovation. Fujian Province will, as always, remain a staunch supporter of XMU, said the Governor. He hoped that XMU could follow through on the guiding principles of the Nineteenth Party Congress, follow the guidance of the socialist ideology of Chinese characteristics in the new era of President Xi Jinping, inherit and promote the excellent school tradition, put development, talent and creativity first and champion scientific spirit. Meanwhile, he exhorted XMUers to double down on the innovation and entrepreneurship education, foster high-caliber creative personnel, accelerate the conversion and application of sci-tech innovations, play the role of the “leading goose”, step up the effort to build XMU into a internationally-acclaimed world-class university to echo the ongoing construction of a new Fujian Province which is characterized by “flexible system, optimal industries, higher living standards, and beautiful ecosystem”, and plough their brains and strength into the development of Fujian in a more innovative, harmonious, sustainable, open and inclusive way.

Also present were Pei Jinjia, member of the Standing Committee of Fujian Provincial Committee and secretary of the Xiamen Party Committee, Guo Guirong, deputy mayor of Xiamen, as well as the staff of relative departments of the provincial and municipal governments, leaders of XMU and heads of some grassroots units.
