On August 18, Yu Weiguo, governor of Fujian province met Konstantin Novoselov, professor of physics of University of Manchester. Mr. Novoselov, the winner of 2010 Nobel Prize in Physics with his co-researcher Andre Geim for their groundbreaking experiments regarding the two dimensional material graphene, is now the honorary professor of XMU. At the meeting, Ye Shiman, vice president of Xiamen University, and Tian Zhongquan, director of the Faculty of Engineering, introduced the what XMU has done in graphene research and its industrialization as well as preparations for the construction of national lab of energy materials.

Ever since 2014, Mr. Novoselov has paid 8 visits to the university (with a grand total 5 months working in XMU) and has played a leading role in organizing 4 large-scale special sessions and some interdisciplinary seminars. His antedating findings cooperated with XMU on the development of the thermal conductivity of graphene have been published on top-tier international journals. Efforts are being made to promote it in the market by cooperating with enterprises.
