The Key Laboratory of Underwater Acoustic Communication and Marine Information Technology was established by Xiamen University with the approval of the Ministry of Education in 2005. In July, 2009, it is offcial open to the public after the examination of the Ministry of Education 

The laboratory focuses on major scientific and technological issues in two research directions, namely, underwater communication technology and marine information technology, with the research priorities covering: 

(1) marine acoustics channel; 

(2) underwater acoustic communication and network; 

(3) three-dimensional media communication; 

(4) ocean remote sensing;

(5) ocean numerical simulation and analysis; 

(6) sound information and sound detection. Currently, it has become an open and influential research base in this aspect.
