Prof. Fu Kuncheng present at symposiums in US on South China Sea

From 4 to 8 March, Fu Kuncheng, professor from South China Sea Institute, Xiamen University, and Yang Cuibai, professor from Sichuan University School of Law, attended five symposiums on south China sea held in Los Angeles, New York, and Washington.

The five symposiums cover four topics, i.e. “South China Sea: Conflict or Cooperation”, “the disputes in South China Sea: the source of contention and the solution”, “History, Laws and Explanation of South China Sea Disputes”, and “ Issues of South China Sea and International Laws”.

In his speeches, Prof. Fu, using pictures and evidences in historical record, emphasized the claim for the U-shaped line in South China Sea has historical basis and legitimate basis and he also clarified some of the concepts of laws in United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.

The five symposiums attracted students and teachers from US universities, such as USC, UCLA, NYU, Harvard, Columbia, Cornell, and overseas Chinese as well as about 30 media agencies, including, China Review News, China News Service, Sing Tao Daily East USA, Washington Chinese Daily News, etc.

Prof. Fu and Prof Yang’s presentations are conducive to making those, who have been long exposed to the distorted reports on the disputes of South China Sea in the western world, reunderstand China's policies on South China Sea in terms of international laws.
