XMU delegation visited south-eastern Asian countries
On 19 September, Zhang Yan, the Party Secretary of Xiamen University, headed a delegation to visit Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesian. The delegation inspected the progress of the construction of Xiamen University Maylaysia Campus, called on the honorable Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Ong Ka Ting, Malaysia Prime Minister’s Special Envoy to China, and Huang Huikang, Chinese ambassador to Malaysia, paid a visit to cooperative universities in Singapore and Indonesia, and met schoolmates of Xiamen University in Singapore and Indonesia.
At the meeting with Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Ong Ka Ting, Malaysia Prime Minister’s Special Envoy to China and Ambassador Huang Huikang, Zhang Yan expressed thanks to the support from Chinese government and Malaysia government. He gave an introduction to the progress of the construction of Xiamen University Malaysia Campus, and said the first overseas branch university set up by Xiamen University, one of the top universities in China, would provide the students from southeastern Asian countries and overseas Chinese students with high quality education. Ambassador Huang and Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Ong Ka Ting also shared the view that both China and Malaysia put a high value on the bilateral relation between the two countries and both sides have maintained close interactions in the fields of politics, trade, culture and education. Xiamen University Malaysia Campus is a symbolic project in education. Its progress of construction has been attended by both governments. They both wished that the campus could be ready for admitting students on time as expected.
After the visit to Malaysia, the delegation also paid a visit to National University of Singapore, Singapore Management University, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, and Universitas Hasanuddin, Indonesia. During the visit, the delegation had a extensive discussion with these universities, about the possibility of cooperative education and research. The delegation also renewed the agreement with Singapore Management University on exchange students and visited the Laser Laboratory, chaired by Hong Minghui, an alumni of Xiamen University, in Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, and the Chinese Corder and Hasanuddin Teaching Hospital.
In Indonesia, the delegation visited two famous trilingual schools (Chinese, English and Indonesian language), and attended a Mid-autumn festival party with schoolmates in Indonesia.
