“The Fate and Biogeochemical Cycling of Viral Elements” by Prof Rui Zhang (corresponding author) Wei Wei,& Lanlan Cai was published in Nature Reviews Microbiology on 14, Nov. 2014. This article, based on Jover et al’s “The elemental composition of virus particles: implications for marine biogeochemical cycles"( Nature Rev. Microbiol. 12, 519–528 (2014)), which. highlight the generally overlooked potential biogeochemical importance of the elements that are bound in virus particles, focuses on the discussion about the fate of marine virioplankton (that is, free virus particles in the water column), which further extends our knowledge of the biogeochemical cycling of the elements that are present in viral particles in the ocean.

Prof. Rui Zhang is now workingin State Key Laboratory of Marine Environmental Science (Xiamen University).
