On July 2, 2014-- Xiamen University(XMU), Xiamen Science Association, and Xiamen Science Institute join hands and agreed to the construction of the International Center for Gulangyu Island Studies(ICGIS). The center will focus on the promotion of the city brand in terms of culture. This is another community involvement that Xiamen University supports.

According to Professor Zhou Ning, the Dean of College of Humanities, XMU, Gulangyu Isaland is rich in human resources, but they have been ignored in the past. Xiamen University, with its strengths in academic research, will help to promote the city brand in the following aspects: First, sort out materials related to Gulangyu Island. Second, create a network for overseas scholars to participate; Third, create a periodical and publish a series of books about Gulangyu Island; Fourth, construct a data base of Gulangyu, including information about important persons related to Gulangyu Island home and abroad.
