Virologist Prof. Nelson Attended Nanqiang Lecture
On the afternoon of April 29, the former president of American Epidemiological Society, and consultant of World Health Organization, Prof. Kenrad E. Nelson, of the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, gave a lecture on "The Complex Epidemiology and Clinical Manifestations of Hepatitis E Virus Infections: a Global Emerging Pathogen“ He was invited by the School of Public Health. Prof. Shi Weiguo of School of Public Health hosted the lecture, and presented Prof. Nelson with a Nanqiang commemorative plaque.
Prof. Nelson elaborated on viral hepatitis. He first introduced the history of discovery of Hepatitis E virus, and pointed out that human infection might be caused by aquagenic reasons or spreaded by zoonosis. He also explained the zoonsis's negative epidemiology impacts, and detailed in the virology and epidemiology studies of hepatitis e virus, as well as this virus's clinical manifestation, extent of injury, mode of transmission, and research directions. In the end, he noted that despite numerous methods to tackle hepatitis, they were always low in efficiency. He also wished to inform more people of how to prevent the disease. The audience asked many questions in the following Q&A session.
