XMU’s Library on Xiang'an Campus Officially Opened

President Zhu Chongshi, on behalf of the university council and administration, expressed highest respect to the designers and workers for the new library. He expressed heartfelt thanks to the leaders and people from all walks of life who show interest and support in the construction of Xiang’an Campus. He stated that a first class campus like Xiang’an Campus should be equipped with not only top notch laboratories, classrooms, but also more importantly, a first rate library, so as to offer a critical platform for the faculty and students to exchange ideas and pursue knowledge. The completion of the library on Xiang'an Campus symbolized another major achievement in the process of Xiang’an Campus building as well as the comprehensive completion of three libraries in three different campuses of XMU.

Zhu stressed that the university would enlarge the collection of books and magazines, perfect service facilities and enhance services to build it into a modern research-oriented library, with top services for the faculty and students. He encouraged the students to cherish time and take advantage of such quality facilities to read books with dedication, understand the meaning of life, explore ways of study and hone skills to serve the society. He hopes comrades in Xiang’an Campus would continue their arduous work and make greater contributions to the realization of the XMU dream and the Chinese dream.  

The library on boasts nine floors, is 47.7 meters in height, and registers as the largest university library in the nation with total area of 73,000 square meters. The library can accommodate more than 3,000,000 books, and provide 3,500 seats for reading. It also holds two lecture halls, seating 300 and 600 people respectively.   Arts exhibition space, multimedia manufacturing space, reader training space, discussion, conference and seminar rooms. It is hoped that the library will meet the distinct needs of the readers and offer comprehensive services for research, teaching, study, and international exchange.

The brilliant library exterior manifests the combination of Chinese and western architectural culture, or rather, Kah Kee style, with an exquisite interior structure and beautiful environment. Four bas relief murals on the southern and northern walls, with the themes of patriotism, revolution, self-strengthening and science-pursuing, fully exhibit the precious spirit of XMU.  

The ceremony was also attended by representatives and guests from HKSPV, Taiwan Normal University, Quemoy University, school authorities and representatives of faculty and students of XMU.
