A German Visiting Group led by Governor Rheinland-Pfalz Ms. Malu Dreyer visited Xiamen University

Led by the Governor of Rheinland-Pfalz, Ms. Malu Dreyer, Mayor of Trier, Mr. Klaus Jensen and the new Vice President of the University of Trier, Prof. Georg Mueller-Fuerstenberger, 32 visitors have come to Xiamen University. Vice President Ms. Zhan Xinli welcomed them at Song'en Building, and enjoyed a cordial discussion led by the President’s assistant and Chief of Office of International Cooperation and Exchange, Mr. Tan Shaobin. Heads of Diplomatic Academy and Foreign Affair Office were also presented.

Vice President Ms. Zhan Xinli said that Xiamen University had long-time friendship with the Rheinland-Pfalz state, and cooperated in various fields. Later, she introduced the history, features, key disciplines) and the international cooperation status quo of Xiamen University. In addition, Vice President Ms. Zhan emphasized our cooperation with German universities, especially the University of Trier, in student exchange, scholar visiting, as well as founding Confucius College, and she also listed the activities held on “University of Trier Day”, March 28.

Governor Malu Dreyer thanked Vice President Ms. Zhan for her kind welcome and introduction. She also praised Xiamen University for its beautiful campus and abundant academic fruits. Governor Malu Dreyer also expressed willingness to support and promote the exchange and cooperation between Xiamen University and University of Trier. Mayor of Trier, Mr. Klaus Jensen pointed out the importance of friendship between these two universities, which also laid the foundation for friendship between Xiamen and Trier. He also talked about building a "Chinese Garden City", a miniature of Xiamen in Trier, and a plan to start a "2014 Constantine-Chinese Xiamen City Festival" in Trier. Later, Vice President of University of Trier, Prof. Georg Mueller-Fuerstenberger, invited more exchange students from Xiamen University to study in University of Trier, and welcomed more cooperation between the two universities.

Vice President Ms. Zhan thanked the visiting group for their support and confirmation of the mutual cooperation, and she also hoped a deeper cooperation and more communication between the two universities. Ms. Zhan also welcomed more German students to study in Xiamen University.

The friendship between Fujian Province and Rheinland-Pfalz state has been on for 25 years. Xiamen City and Trier started their friendship in 2010, and Xiamen University and University of Trier signed a cooperation framework in 2007as well as an exchange program in 2010. There has been an effective cooperation between the two universities in student exchange, scholar visiting, as well as founding Confucius College.
